Aggressive Apollo Server Pricing Announced

New pricing strategy aimed to strengthen position of Apollo Database Server as world's most affordable, high-performance xBase data engine

LA JOLLA, Calif. – May 23, 2001 – Vista Software today unveiled an aggressive new pricing structure for the Apollo Database Server specifically designed to increase market share in the xBase data server space.

The company is dramatically simplifying its Apollo Database Server line by dropping the 5-User, 25-User servers and is keeping the 10-User and Unlimited User servers. Both the new 10-User and Unlimited User server now feature unlimited deployments for one price. New pricing is as follows:

  • Apollo Database Server 6.0 2-User (Free, unlimited deployments)
  • Apollo Database Server 6.0 10-User ($429, unlimited deployments)
  • Apollo Database Server 6.0 Unlimited-User ($979, unlimited deployments)
  • Upgrade from 5-User to 6.0 10-User ($129)
  • Upgrade any edition (except 2-User) to 6.0 Unlimited ($529)

"It's a very simple plan -- we're going after the xBase server market in a big way. Our new aggressive pricing strategy is designed to give consumers an outstanding alternative to over-priced xBase database servers," stated Anthony Carrabino, President and CEO of Vista Software. "The upcoming Apollo 6.0 product release has reached a very high level of stability and we want the world to know about it. One price with unlimited deployments. You can't beat it."

"We fumbled with our server pricing since day one because we tried following our competitors pricing structures, which are based on 1990's marketing models that simply don't work in today's marketplace. Today, customers want more for less, so we had to respond," stated Carrabino.

And respond they did. This new Apollo pricing model makes Apollo Database Server the most affordable xBase database server in the world. According to Carrabino, the company has seen a surge in inquires from people using competing products.

"I know we're onto something when during a one week period we received five calls from people claiming to be long-time customers of our largest competitor!" exclaimed Carrabino.

The company admits that the Apollo Database Server still lacks a couple features, namely transaction processing, but quickly points out that transaction processing is nearly complete and will be released in the next revision.

"I can safely say that Apollo Database Server is well within 90% of the features found in our biggest competitor's product which costs a lot more money," stated Med Shaker, Vice President and CTO of Vista Software. "Apollo delivers a tremendous amount of technology to manage FoxPro, Clipper and HiPer-SIx files including SQL, TCP/IP over LAN and Internet, Server DLLs, security, and more."

Additional Special Pricing

To help launch the upcoming Apollo Data Control for VB and new Apollo COM products, the company is offering discount pricing on both products. The special pricing is as follows: Apollo COM 6.0 $299 (Regular $429), Apollo Data Control 6.0 $299 (Regular $379) and Apollo Data Control 6.0 Upgrade $229 (Regular $279). Customers can order these products directly from the company's on-line shopping cart.
