VistaDB 2.0 VCL components and Apollo cross-grade pricing

July 30th, 2004

A quick update on the VCL components for our new VistaDB database engine.

We have decided to add the VCL components directly to VistaDB 2.0 rather than create a new product called Apollo VDB. This means, when you buy VistaDB 2.0, you will get both the ADO.NET Data Provider for .NET and the VCL components for Delphi/C++Builder!

Just so you know, the VistaDB Data Builder utility is built using Delphi and our new VistaDB VCL components, so we can attest that the VCL library is very stable -- the Data Builder utility gets used more than any other part of VistaDB and it's working great. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself by downloading it here: (the VistaDB eval includes the Data Builder) http://www.vistadb.net/evalrequest.asp

Furthermore, we will try to make the VistaDB 2.0 VCL components available in the next several days. We have just finished getting the core code ready for VistaDB 2.0 (Beta 4), which will get posted Saturday. I'll see what i can do about including the VCL with that build. I think we have to re-write the installer and change our VistaDB setup to from .msi to .exe format. I'm just not sure yet.

VistaDB Pricing (Apollo cross-grades)

We've been getting emails about VistaDB pricing for Apollo customers First, let me explain what is included with VistaDB 2.0:

  • VistaDB20.DLL core engine (featuring with built-in V-SQL engine)
  • Managed ADO.NET Data Provider (for .NET)
  • VCL components (for Delphi/C++Builder)
  • Data Builder Utility for managing database
  • Data Migration Tool for migrating data to the new VistaDB database format (A BDE version is available as well that supports Paradox and other BDE drivers!)

As you can see, you're getting a lot of product with VistaDB. We promised that VistaDB would be great and we're doing everything we can to make sure you have all the functionality and tools needed to build powerful database apps under .NET and now under Win32 as well with the new VCL components.

VistaDB 2.0 is $329 for new users ($129 special currently)
Apollo users will be able to purchase VistaDB for $229 ($100 off)
This $229 Apollo cross-grade price will be active after 2.0 ships. VistaDB currently has a special introductory offer for only $129 ($200 off!)

This $129 price is available to EVERYONE and it will be valid until 2.0 is officially released (which isn't much longer). After release, the prices listed above will come into effect. In other words, if you want to save money on VistaDB 2.0, you will need to purchase it in the next couple of weeks.
