If you are experiencing an unusual slowdown in your Apollo 6.1 applications compared to your Apollo 6.0 applications, then you should download this new SDE 6.1.0.14 build. Apollo SDE DLLs have been updated to revert back a previous internal increase in file handle support. The increased file handle support was to allow for better development of web-based applications using Apollo .NET and Apollo ASP. However, the side effect of the increase in file handles is performance degradation.

Apollo ASP, COM and OLE DB have been updated with correct version information, which is displayed when using object browser utilities such as Visual Basic's Project->References. Also, Apollo ASP 6.1.0.2 has been updated with the correct, latest Apollo SQL 6.1.0.2 DLL file. It seems like the Apollo ASP zip file posted on March 3rd included the wrong SQL version for Apollo ASP.

March 3rd, 2003

New Apollo 6.1 files have been posted! This includes fixes for the SQL threading issue which affects local SQL and the Apollo Server SQL. Apollo Relay Server has been updated to with the same type of threading support as the SQL. To avoid conflict with 6.0 applications, the SDE 6.1 DLLs have been renamed to SDE61.DLL, SDENTX61.DLL, SDECDX61.DLL and SDENSX61.DLL. You will need to update your Apollo applications so that references to SDE60 get renamed to SDE61. This is particularly true under Delphi's USES clauses.

January 25th, 2003

Med has finished a week-long Apollo 6.1 deployment onsite in Italy with one of our Apollo customers. This deployment uncovered a threading issue with the SQL engine which affects local SQL and the Apollo Server SQL. There was some code in the SQL engine that was not thread-safe and it would cause some issues when multiple SQL statements were run simultaneously. This issue has been fixed and we are in the process of getting a new 6.1 build released. We expect the new 6.1 build to be available by next weekend.

• SQL: Fixed slowness in resolving WHERE clause. New SQL build is 7x to 10x faster than the previous 6.1 build (speed is back to normal).
• ADS: includes new SQL fix.
• ASP: includes new SQL engine.
• VCL: New CB5 and CB6 designtime and runtime packages seperated as per Delphi support.
  Designtime packages have been renamed with an extra "d" instead of prefixing them with "dcl".
  (Note: Compile the Apollo6xx.dpk runtime package first, then open and install the Apollo6xxd.dpk designtime package. "d" denotes "designtime".).

We have posted updated Apollo ASP, Apollo Server, Apollo VCL and Apollo SQL 6.1 files with the following fixes:

• SQL 6.1 Eval DLL now available!
• SQL: Fixed problem with ORDER BY on long strings
• VCL: Using new code by Ron Hoek that fixes designtime error with TApolloEnv and TApolloDatabase under Delphi 7
  (Delphi note: compile Apollo6Dx.dpk then dclApollo6Dx.dpk)
• Apollo Server and Apollo ASP have been rebuilt using the updated SQL 6.1 engine

We have posted updated Apollo ASP, Apollo Server, Apollo VCL and Apollo SQL 6.1 files with the following fixes:

• Memo data issue with the SQL engine has been fixed
• ap_EvalLogical in apConn.pas has been fixed
• xBase function calls in the WHERE clause of SQL has been fixed (e.g. Trunc(x) and Int(x) etc.)
• TApolloEnv in Delphi 7 caused error with TApolloDatabase at designtime. Fixed.
  (Delphi note: compile Apollo6Dx.dpk then dclApollo6Dx.dpk)
• Updated SQL engine is included with Apollo Server and Apollo ASP

Apollo 6.1 zip files are now available for download. These basic zip files allow 6.0 customers to get up to speed with new Apollo 6.1 update.

These 6.1 zip files contain only the most basic file set needed to use the product. We have been overwhelmed with customers asking for these 6.1 files so we decided to post what these basic files. Documentation and other support files will be forthcoming.
