Apollo Database Server Competitive Edge

Apollo Database Server™

Competitive Edge

Buy once deploy many™

Apollo Database Server features unlimited distribution licensing for a one time purchase. This means there are no additional costs to deploy the Apollo Database Server. Purchasing one copy of the Apollo Server allows you to distribute it an unlimited number of times. No other xBase client/server engine offers this.

FREE! 2-User Server

A free full-featured 2-User edtion of the Apollo Database Server is available for download which supports two concurrent client connections. The 2-User Server may be deployed freely as with the other server editions. It is ideal for testing client/server applications and for creating eval or demo versions of your client/server software.

All Apollo engines supported

Apollo has an engine built for your environment. You can use Apollo ASP, Apollo COM, Apollo Data Control, Apollo OLE DB or Apollo VCL to build client side applications that connect to the Apollo Database Server. Click here to find out which Apollo is right for you.

Best Client/Server Value

Great technology is not enough these days so we made Apollo Database Server the worlds most affordable high performance client/server solution ever. With our new unlimited licensing policy, Apollo Database Server is now the world's most affordable client/server xBase engine in the world! Our nearest competitor offers inexpensive entry-level components and even give their entry-level software away. But once you are locked into our competitors "pay-as-you-deploy" pricing model, your costs quickly soar. Keep your costs under control and get with Apollo Database Server.

Built-in Internet Technology

Unlike competing products, Apollo Database Server features built-in Internet technology with no additional add-ons to buy or "plug-in". Apollo's Internet technology allows your users to connect to data directly over the Internet. You can publish databases on the Internet as easily as you can in a local network environment.

Built-in Apollo SQL™

Apollo Database Server has built-in Apollo SQL which allows developers to access data on the server using SQL syntax. Apollo SQL is comparable to technologies costing thousands of dollars more. It features a full set of DML commands, support for JOIN, MERGE, GROUP BY, HAVING, ORDER BY, WHERE and much more. Apollo SQL even supports a set powerful commands called TRANSFORM...PIVOT for creating cross-tab queries.

Security

Apollo Database Server features built-in database security and optional data encryption. This allows developers to easily protect the information used by their Apollo applications.

Compression

Apollo Database Server implements advanced compression techniques that allow data to be compressed before it is sent from the server to client computers which can greatly reduce and network traffic. This functionality is very useful when the Apollo Database Server is used as an Internet Server.

Optimized for Windows NT and Windows 2000 – and Novell-Friendly

Unlike other popular client/server solutions that were ported from DOS and Novell, Apollo Database Server was designed from the ground up to run on Windows. The Apollo Database Server can even run on Windows 95 and Windows 98, however due to the threading model of these two operating systems, performance is not optimal. We have focused our energy perfecting Windows compatibility and optimizing Apollo Database Server to run on all Windows networks and platforms. The Apollo Database Server can run as an NT Service or as an application. Apollo Database Server is 100% TCP/IP based.

Apollo Servers are Novell-friendly, which means that an Apollo Server can operate in a Novell network environment. A Novell Load Module (NLM) is not provided so users simply need to install the Apollo Server on a computer running Windows that is connected to the Novell LAN. Please note that Novell has abandoned its proprietary IPX/SPX protocol and has adopted TCP/IP as the basis of their future technology. See Novell encourages TCP/IP architecture.

Threading Technology

Apollo Database Server features a true client/server architecture that lets the client application communicate directly with the Apollo Database Server. Apollo Database Server implements advanced TCP/IP and data streaming technology that takes advantage of fast connectivity offered by Windows operating systems. Its the same technology used by web servers on the UNIX platform to support thousands of simultaneous connections. Apollo Database Server automatically scales and takes full advantage of the server hardware. Adding memory to the server is an easy way to boost performance since Apollo Database Server will make full use of hardware enhancements.

Zero Administration

Zero administration required! To deploy an Apollo Server requires little more than running the install software on the server it will be deployed on and setting up a database link. An Apollo Server can up and running in well under an hour. Apollo Servers can be set to run as an application or as an NT Service and the performance is the same either way.

Rock-Solid Technology

Apollo Database Server is built on our rock-solid, award winning Apollo technology and on our 5th generation, 32-bit SDE database technology. Hundreds of thousands of users worldwide rely on the SDE each day to run their businesses and manage their mission critical database systems. You can feel confident that Apollo Database Server will meet your customers demanding needs.
